Pepperoni is easily the most popular pizza topping in North America. We so often enjoy it without giving a thought to style, ingredients, or even history. When immigrants from Italy came to America they adapted their traditional salume to fit the ingredients they had and the palates of their new communities. The name pepperoni comes from the Italian peperone which means bell pepper. Pepperoni as we’ve come to know it in North America is primarily a pizza topping that can range from high end and premium to a low cost but flavourful pizza ingredient.
